What to Expect at the Start of Your Auto Transport
Carrier Contact & Scheduling
Before your pickup date, the assigned auto transport carrier will reach out to confirm details and coordinate a convenient pickup time. They’ll aim to get as close to your specified location as possible.Vehicle Inspection
When the carrier arrives, you’ll complete a thorough inspection of your vehicle together with the driver. This step is essential for documenting any existing damage. The driver will record this using a physical form or mobile app. We strongly recommend taking detailed photos of all four sides of the vehicle, the roof, interior, and a clear shot of the odometer to note the mileage.Pickup & Transit
Once the inspection is complete, your vehicle will be loaded onto the transport trailer and begin its journey to the destination.
What Happens In Between?
Auto transport carriers typically cover 400–500 miles per day, and all pickups and deliveries are done by appointment—carriers never arrive unannounced. Importantly, the carrier won’t reach out to schedule your appointment until they’ve completed loading or unloading the vehicle scheduled before yours.
Since each pickup and delivery is coordinated in advance, you’ll be informed several hours ahead of time about exactly when and where to meet the driver. Throughout the process, you’ll also have direct contact details, including the driver’s name, the dispatcher’s contact information, and both of their direct phone numbers, so you’re always in the loop.
What Happens at Delivery?
Most auto transport carriers will contact you about a day before delivery to confirm the time and location. At that point, they’ll have a clearer delivery window and will work with you to arrange a drop-off point as close to your home as the truck can safely reach.
Once your vehicle is unloaded from the transport truck, it’s time for the final inspection. Carefully walk around the car, taking photos from all four sides and from above if possible. Check the interior for any damage and verify the odometer reading for any unexpected mileage changes. If you notice any issues, make sure they’re documented on the Bill of Lading (BOL). This step is crucial—without it, you won’t be able to file a damage claim with the carrier’s insurance.
That’s it—your vehicle has been successfully delivered! You’re now free to drive it and enjoy the ride.
